Suzanne D'Amico, a member of the Manhattan Chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America, appeared in the hearing loss segment which was aired August 31, 2010 on NBC's The TODAY Show.  In fact, you can see the whole D'Amico family on the tape if you click the link below.  Anna Bella, Suzanne's 8-year old daughter who wears hearing aids, steals the show. 


The segment was titled "Is hearing loss taking a toll on your family?"

Family psychologist Dale Atkins discussed how hearing loss can make communicating a challenge for loved ones of all generations.

There is still one place open in the Beginners Signed Motorcycle Class on Sat/Sun  Sept 11-12th.  You should register SOON, if interested.
 
We have added one more Signed Class for Beginners - on Tuesday/Wednesday  Sept 20-21st.   Room for 3 more students in this class.
 
Both Classes will teach you how to ride a motorcycle safely.  If you pass test - will get you motorcycle license and motorcycle insurance discount at most companies.

Prefer applicant with educational interpreter tutor experience, knowledge of child development, deaf culture and significance of hearing needs, able to use hands for communication for long periods of time and competent skills in reverse interpreting.  Responsibilities include:  providing classroom information for the deaf or hard of hearing student through manual and oral interpreting or transliterating and other duties as assigned.  Bilingual skills in Spanish/English preferred, but not required.

We are a nonprofit dedicated to reduce levels of violence in society.  Right now we are giving a course of Emotional Intelligence and Critical Decision Making to youth living in low-income transitional housing and we have one hearing impaired participant.  We want to be more inclusive and provide sign language interpretation.  The class is 1 ½ hours a week for 5 more weeks and we can pay $50 a class + some money per mile for transportation.
